y the Winged Victory of Samothrace.
A unique monument representing the messenger goddess of victory perched on the prow of a ship.
The sculpture was found broken into several pieces and sent to the Louvre Museum in 1864.
2 years later, still incomplete, it was exhibited to the public.
In 1879, some more elements of the statue were found and added to the body of The Winged Victory of Samothrace, with the exception of the head and arms, which were never found.
The sculpture, made of white marble, brings lightness and a sense of movement.
Its beauty, mystery and wealth of detail make the Victory of Samothrace one of the Louvre's great treasures.
